Exercise #1
My Topic: (Interviewee: 6-8 persons)
Impact of Economic Crisis on 8 East Asian International Graduate Students who are going to reenroll in private West coast faith-based liberal art institution (Grounded Theory).
- Problem Statement
Reenrolling 8 East Asian International Graduate Students are paying high private tuition during the time when global economic uncertainty is affecting global currency exchange rate.
Methodology: Grounded Theory (Why? Theoretical Framework: Tinto: Persistence & Retention)
Case Study: Compare students who have faced different exchange currency rate during this time (Japanese vs. Korean or Chinese vs. Korean): What or How; (e.g. to explain/describe patterns related to phenomenon: “What meaning do 41 men and 17 women with a diagnosis of AIDS ascribe to their illness?”
My Possible Research Question: What meaning do 5 Japanese International students and 5 Korean International students with global economic crisis, global currency exchange rate ascribe/give to their study in the States?
- Purpose (Methodological Approach: Grounded Theory)
The purpose of this grounded theory study is to discover Impact of Economic Crisis on International Graduate Students who are going to reenroll in private West coast faith-based liberal art institution (central phenomenon of the study). At this stage in the research, Impact of Economic Crisis on International Graduate Students who are going to reenroll in private West coast faith-based liberal art institution (central phenomenon) will be generally defined as persistence and retention for the particular group. (a general definition of the central concept).
- Research Question
Q: Why did they come back despite of global economic crisis? (NOT WANT..)- (Grounded theory)
Q: As international students how U.S. economic crisis meant/affect to your study? (Phenomenology Theory)
Q:
- Sub-questions
Factors related to economics (e.g. Cost housing house.. cost tuition fee, cost
Q: What factors influence their decision to persist to study in the States (Grounded Theory)
- Limitations
9. Analytic memos (Raw data…Every thing uses to gain conclusion; interview; visiting, focus group…)
- Thick Description (explain…. like Pictures & with Emotion in the details: e.g. my bedroom… my bathroom…): …. Hard to explain yourself and your own culture
